Many of the Labs that enter rescue are victims of some form of neglect; whether physical, emotional, or behavioral. We thoroughly evaluate each Lab to ensure its even temperament in a family setting and strive to place Labs according to their needs.

All of our intakes are heartworm tested, de-wormed, vaccinated, and micro chipped, as well as spayed/neutered. Many Labs that enter rescue test positive for heartworm, thus requiring treatment before adoption. All adoptable Labs get as much socialization, basic obedience, crate and house training as possible prior to adoption. We feed a high quality Lamb and Rice dog food, go through tons of cookies and chewies, and try to keep the Labs as stimulated and happy as possible throughout their time in rescue.

Often, our medical costs plus our maintenance expenses exceed our adoption fee of $250.00; therefore, we depend on donations from generous supporters like you to help us meet our medical and daily needs.

There are several ways of supporting WHLR. You can:

We are also always in need of extra crates for transport and foster, leashes, collars and quality dog food, as well as sturdy dog toys. Pet store gift certificates are awesome and can easily be mailed to our snail mail address!

Please e-mail us if you have something used or new to donate and we will gladly make arrangements for pickup!

If you would like to sponsor a particular Lab, we will send you updates and photos of "YOUR" rescued retriever!
