Update: Sherman has been adopted.
Hi - I'm Sherman! I'm about 9 years old and the nice people at Daisy's Place/Wild Heir saved me from the gas chamber at a really scary place called a shelter. I don't know why I ended up there, I'm really a great dog - I'm sweet and loving, very low maintenance, I love everyone - both two and four legged alike. I'm very good on my leash, I never have accidents in the house and I really just want to love and be loved. My foster mom says my ears are like velvet, I love it when she pets me and then I roll over so she can rub my tummy! I also really like car rides - and I recently flew in something called an airplane, I rode in the back seat right behind the pilot and looked out the window the whole way - that's how I got to Charleston, a nice man with Pilots N Paws brought me to safety with Daisy's Place/Wild Heir!

My joints are a little creaky and sometimes I get wobbly, so the vet is giving me supplements and I'm working on building my strength with nice slow daily walks. If you want a loving companion who is happy to see you when you come home and doesn't need any training - I'm your guy! I love my foster mom, but I'm ready for my own forever home, and then my foster mom can help save another old soul like me.

Update: Ryan/Pokey has been adopted.
Hi - I'm Ryan, or Pokey as my foster mom started calling me! She calls me that because I'm kinda big and a little slow, but also because I poke my nose in your hand when I want some loving. I'm about 7 years old and I love absolutely everyone - doesn't matter if you have two legs or four, young or old, big or little! I like to go for walks and play with other dogs, I also like to play with my tennis balls - and oh yeah, I LOVE the water but I really don't like stairs. Basically I'm just a big gentle giant and I want a loving forever home - and someone that will help me with my diet and exercise routine so I can lose a few pounds and re-capture my boyish figure!
Update: Beethoven has been adopted.
Meet Beethoven - 10 years old. He's one gorgeous guy and about as sweet and easy going as can be! He and his brother Jake were both dumped in a high kill shelter by their thoughtless owners that decided they were allergic to them - after a decade. Beethoven loves his toys and balls, but his creaky joints don't allow him to fetch like he did in his younger days. He will happily carry a tennis ball around and is content if you throw it a few feet for him. He loves to cuddle up with his foster mom and is a big love bug! He also enjoys running errands and riding in the car. Most importantly, he just wants to be with his people and have a soft bed to sleep on - although if given the chance he'll curl up on the couch! Beethoven would love to find his forever home (without too many stairs) and a second chance at happiness!
Meet Lila. She's a petite 10 year old black Labby mix. Lila was very confused and forlorn when she found herself dumped in a high kill shelter. She couldn't understand how she ended up in such a scary place! When she first came into rescue she was very shy and often went outside and sat by the gate barking - we think she thought she'd been dognapped and wanted to go home! In time, Lila has come out of her shell and is learning to love and trust again. She likes hanging out with her foster dad's other fur kids and she's even started wagging her tail and taking treats out of his hand. Lila likes to go for walks and is a well behaved older lady. She doesn't ask for a lot - just a gentle touch, loving kindness and a nice soft bed!
If you are interested in meeting or adopting Lila, or any of our other dogs, please fill out an adoption application.

Update: Lady has been adopted.
Meet Lady! She's a gorgeous 4 year old black lab who came into rescue about to give birth any day. Lady had 13 puppies - all of which are thriving and healthy - and now after nursing and caring for her pups, she's ready to find her own forever home. She's sweet and loving and a bit of an alpha girl, so she'll do best in a home without other alpha females. Lady's a very cheerful dog and always wags her tail when people approach. She loves to be with her foster family and is very protective - she barks at the door or the window if someone approaches the house and then looks to her foster mom for approval. Lady is smart and quick to learn and will benefit from firm, but gentle guidance on how to be part of a healthy, happy and balanced pack!
The Mt. Pleasant Dolittles is hosting this weekends Meet & Greet on Saturday, April 11 at 858 Houston Northcutt Blvd in the Whole Foods/Staples shopping center. Come out from 11 am to 3 pm and meet the rescue crew! There will be lots of dogs looking for their forever or foster homes, so come on by!

Here's the lovely Sadie who's enjoying her "new" forever home. Butchie and Sadie are getting along very well. Butchie played hard to get the first day or two but now they sleep together. Sadie's great on the leash and I've been taking them both out walking thru the neighborhood...she loves her walks. And they do walk together so nicely....my little pack. Anyway, I'm so glad I adopted Sadie...what a loveydovey. My cat Lucy was disgusted that we brought another dog in but she's getting over it. Anyway, It's all working out just fine and they can also be left alone in the house for a few hours while we're out at work...yey:)

Another happy tail submitted by WHLR volunteer Lauren.
Darby arrived at her forever home in Maryland in November and has since become the happiest dog in the universe! Her Papa, my father-in-law, plays frisbee with her at least 3 times a day, and walks her every night. She has her own couch and a bottomless basket of toys. She has her very own kids (her Papa has 8 grandchildren who love her), and a huge yard filled with squirrels. Life is good for this girl! Darby celebrated her 7th birthday on January 4th, and is proof that life only gets better as you mature!
This Happy Tail was submitted by WHLR volunteer and foster failure Lauren, who adopted Chloe.
Chloe is such a special girl! She has really blossomed since arriving at our house as a foster dog back in November. Everyday we are so thankful that we decided to adopt her and make her a permanent member of the pack! She has put on some weight since arriving, and is now healthy enough to undergo heartworm treatment. Her "brother" Bernie will be very sad that she won't be able to wrestle in the yard while she recovers! Chloe is sweet to everyone, human, dog, and cat, and has been a great influence on all the fosters that come through the door. Here are some pics of our sweet girl.
I am going to be in town over the holiday weekend. Also taking Monday and Tuesday off after Easter. Maybe we can get together at some point during that time so Caly can come a see you two and his play mate Jake again. Light is so active again. It makes me so glad to see the change. The two of them wrestle so much they tire each other out. When we walk, Light pulls ahead like he used to and Caly is in step with him. I feel like I have a sled team with out the sled, like it used to be when Dark was healthy.
Caly is growing and eating well. His body has adapted to our eating habits and schedule. Each day at lunch time I come home from work to let him out of his doggy den to play out in the yard. You have to see him run. He looks like a shot flying around and bouncing off the fence.
I often wonder how long I will be able to continue holding him as I walk upstairs to bed. We can both still fit in my chair together so he can nap. I can never explain how his presence has healed the hole in our hearts. He has received a Dog Bakery gift and card from on of my friends. My sister has accused me of severely spoiling him. I think that he and Light deserve it for making my life so sweet.
