Lizzie

Update: Lizzie has been adopted.

Lizzie is the cutest little black girl ever! We're not sure exactly of her pedigree -we were told she was a black Lab puppy. NOT! She is quiet and sweet, loves people and playing with other dogs her size. She's good with kids and is around 20 weeks old. Lizzie is crate trained and is currently busy getting spoiled at her foster home.

Update: Simba has been adopted.

Simba is the coolest little guy! He is between 18-24 months and is doing really well at his foster home in Mount Pleasant, SC. He is crate trained, working on house training perfection, loves to play woth the other dogs, and gets along really well with the kids. Simba is a funny, sweet guy who is almost too cute to be a boy!

Update: Bella has been adopted.

Bella is a 9 year old sweet happy go-lucky big gal. She loves to hang out with her people, go for walks and is good on a leash. She is very silly and playful and when tries to do the 'puppy pounce' it's like watching the hippos in tutus on Fantasia - adorable! Very good when left alone inside, totally house broken, no chewing, etc. Sleeps on her bed at night so no crating needed. Bella is on thyroid medications, which should help with her weight.

Abe

Update: Abe has been adopted.

From Abe's foster family:

Well, it has been a couple of weeks since he got here. He is going along. He will go up and down the stairs fairly easy. He does pretty good on going out to use the bathroom, just a couple accidents. You have to almost decipher when he needs to go, he paces. He is putting on some weight. He has slowed down on how fast he eats. He is not aggressive when he eats. He still gets spooked easy.

He has learned that he needs to sit before he gets his food or any snacks. We are still working on sitting before he goes out the door. He is working on trusting people. He has for the most part. He does have his secure area where he feels safe, however it is our bed. The dogs will share the bed. He is starting to snore now also.

Mabel

Miss Mabel is our senior celebrity! She was waiting for her forever home in a shelter in Knoxville, TN but unfortunately because of her age (approximately 10), Mabel was overlooked. Wild Heir's Daisy's Place - dedicated to saving and finding loving homes for labs and lab mixes six years and older - teamed up with the generous pilots from Pilots 'n Paws to get Mabel to Charleston where her foster mom eagerly awaited her arrival! Jeff Schlueter, one of Mabel's transport pilot's told us, "Mabel was splendid on the plane...a seasoned pro traveler, even reaching her head over the seat to give piloting tips from behind.   I enjoyed the trip and I hope Mabel has a great environment for the rest of her life. She's a heart-stealer for sure!"

Upon her arrival in Charleston, Mabel graciously posed for the cameras and then did her first TV interview - but she hasn't let all the notoriety go to her head - she's a sweet, happy go lucky old gal! She loves everyone and doesn't let her age slow her down a bit - put her on a leash and she's ready to go walking and has a wagging tail for all she meets! Mabel is a healthy senior gal and has been fully vetted, is heartworm negative and would love to find a forever home to enjoy her golden years.

Jake

Update: Jake has been adopted.
Jake is a 5 years old yellow male with a genuine lab disposition. He is housebroken and knows all the important dog tricks; sit, shake, walking on a leash, coming when called. He is very good will any age child and plays well with them. He is shy and nervous in new situations and with new people, but after a few minutes, he is his normal self. He enjoys laying on the floor at your feet and would love to get up on the furniture if allowed. He has not problems with cats - I guess to him it is like they don't exist (dogs rule and cats drool).

He is a typical lab with a little bit of nervousness. He is a very good dog, but very much a couch potato. Not much excitement except when he decides to jump our fence in the back of the house. We are having to re-inforce the fence in the back yard because Jake has decided he wants to jump it and run around in the field behind our house. We have been fortunate that he hasn't gotten further without someone seeing him and getting him back right away. Please consider giving Jake a new home.

Hello and Happy New Year- Wild Heir is off and running at full speed starting 2009. It is raining labs on us- as usual- I think we all thought we might slide into January- but that is not going to happen- we are sprinting. As always we are looking for foster homes- we have a constant stream of labs coming each day- quite a few older labs right now. So if you have not fostered in a while, or know someone else that might be interested please contact me.

Jenny Angelino is our new Volunteer and Events Coordinator. She is busy contacting all volunteers for our many upcoming events and needs volunteers as well as foster labs to attend all of these events. The events that are happening very soon are as follows:

Jan 31- Grand Opening of Camp Bow Wow in Mt. Pleasant

Feb 7th- meet and greet at Planet Bark

Feb 13-15th- Wild Life Expo- this is a big one- we need LOTS of volunteers

Feb 28th- IOP Doggie Days

Wild Heir continues to grow at a rapid rate and there are all sorts of volunteer needs on a regular basis. In addition to events such as transport, phone calls, data entry, letter writing, fund raising, we need help and Jenny would love to talk with you about your interests and strengths and how you might be able to help Wild Heir.

What is new for 2009???? We are working on a new and improved foster program with a handbook, a new volunteer program, a monthly newsletter, and much more....

I just wanted to touch base, wish you all a happy new year and thank you for your continued support of Wild Heir. To grow as fast as we are we could not do it without a strong group of volunteers- so thank you and we look forward to seeing more of you in 2009.

Jez, Jake and Axle

Update: Jez, Jake and Axle's situation has been resolved.

Jez, Jake and Axle are a trio of dogs that are in desperate need of a good home.

As most of you are aware my dear friend and next door neighbor passed away recently and have left behind some wonderful animals that are suffering due to her death. Her husband works out of town five days a week and I am currently feeding her beloved animals but they need daily human companionship and a forever home. Below is a list and brief description of everyone. All of these animals are house broken and would make a wonderful pet to anyone who would provide them with love and shelter. All of these animals love people; children and other animals; they were reared in a very loving environment. Kathy's husband said he can no longer care for these animals and mentioned having them euthanized; which is a cruel fate for these loving animals so please forward this email to anyone you may know that would provide a loving home to an animal in need. These animals are currently living in Swansea, SC and roaming on about 7 acres.

Jake - Male Black Lab. Approximately 10 years old, not neutered, full blooded very sweet and loves all animals including chickens and cats. Jake is an outdoor dog but is house broken as well.

Axle - Male Chocolate Lab. Approximately 6 years old, not neutered full blooded very sweet and loves all animals as well. Axle is an outdoor dog but he is house broken as well.

Jezebel - Female Chocolate Lab, spayed, approximately 9 years old, loves everybody and lives on the front porch with 3 chickens and KO the cat. Jez is afraid of thunder and lightening and would be best with someone who would have a safe place for her during a storm.

Doe

Update: Doe has been adopted.

Doe is a sweet approximately 1 year old Walker hound who is looking for her forever home. She is currently being fostered by the family that rescued her before she almost starved to death. She has been to the vet and is current on her shots. She is heartworm positive, however, the vet recommended getting her weight up and spaying her first before going through heartworm treatment (since it is hard on the dog). She is gaining weight and is a happy, playful dog who would make a great addition to your home.
